About this formulation
Ayurvedic literature regards periodic internal cleansing as part of ordinary upkeep rather than as a response to illness, and the herbs used for it have been in continuous household use for centuries. The reasoning is plain enough — incomplete digestion leaves waste behind, and waste is easier to clear before it settles. Detox Tablet is a coated 500 mg tablet combining five ingredients selected for that purpose, weighted toward the lower bowel and taken at night so it works while the body is at rest.
The herbs, and why they are here
Sonamukhi (Cassia angustifolia) — senna, and the largest ingredient at 150 mg. Its action is chiefly on the lower bowel, where it increases the peristaltic movement of the colon by acting locally on the intestinal wall. It is traditionally considered most suitable where constipation has become habitual.
Harde (Terminalia chebula) — haritaki, described in the classical texts as laxative, purgative, astringent and rejuvenative at once. It improves the working of the digestive system and clears unnecessary waste, and is also used as a nervine tonic.
Trikatu — the classical combination of three warming herbs, Zingiber officinale, Piper longum and Piper nigrum. It is a digestive aid in its own right, useful where there is loss of appetite, indigestion, belching, nausea or flatulence, and it improves the penetration of the other ingredients into the system.
Bilvagarbha (Aegle marmelos) — bael fruit pulp, used across the Ayurvedic, Unani and Siddha systems in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Here it balances the purgative herbs, being traditionally used to settle the intestinal lining and firm the stool.
Nishottar (Operculina turpethum) — trivrit. The resin fraction acts as a mild purgative, which is why only 50 mg is needed, and the herb is also described in traditional use as anthelmintic and anti-inflammatory.
