About this formulation

In ayurveda, diabetes is understood as a kapha-type metabolic disorder in which diminished agni, the digestive fire, leads to a tendency toward high blood sugar. Classical texts group twenty forms of the condition under Prameha, four attributed to vata, six to pitta and ten to kapha, with accumulation from food, drink and sedentary habit as the usual cause. Diabopan Churna is the powder form of that approach, blending fourteen herbs so they can be taken directly rather than as a compressed dose.

The herbs, and why they are here

Karela (Momordica charantia) — bitter gourd, the largest single component alongside Madhunasini, and a source of chromium and magnesium, two micronutrients involved in normal sugar metabolism.

Madhunasini or Gudmar (Gymnema sylvestre) — acts indirectly, through stimulation of insulin secretion, rather than on carbohydrate metabolism directly.

Vijaysar (Pterocarpus marsupium) — the bark contains pterostilbene, and the flavonoid epicatechin drawn from it is traditionally associated with supporting healthy sugar levels.

Jambubeej (Syzygium cumini) — jamun seed, used for generations in Indian households in support of fasting blood sugar levels.

Neempan (Azadirachta indica) and Kutki (Picrorhiza kurroa) — bitter herbs traditionally used to support liver function and the body’s own clearing of the blood.

Methi (Trigonella foenum-graecum) and Kalijiri (Centratherum anthelminticum) — both rich in dietary fibre and long used where healthy blood glucose is the concern.

Haldar (Curcuma longa) — turmeric, included for the antioxidant capacity of its curcuminoids.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) and Bala (Sida cordifolia) — classical rasayana herbs that round out the formulation, traditionally used to support stamina, kidney function and the balance of the doshas under metabolic stress.

Amala (Emblica officinalis) and Shuddha Shilajit (Asphaltum) — amla for its vitamin C and liver support, and purified mineral pitch for its long use in ayurveda across genito-urinary, digestive and metabolic indications.
