About this formulation

In ayurveda, diabetes is understood as a kapha-type metabolic disorder in which diminished agni (digestive fire) leads to a tendency toward high blood sugar. Classical texts classify twenty-four forms of the condition under Prameha. Diabopan Tablet brings together sixteen herbs traditionally used in that context, standardised and combined in a single coated tablet.

The herbs, and why they are here

Gudmar (Gymnema sylvestre) — one of the most widely used herbs in this category. It acts indirectly, through stimulation of insulin secretion, rather than on carbohydrate metabolism directly.

Vijaysar (Pterocarpus marsupium) — the bark contains pterostilbene, and the flavonoid epicatechin extracted from it is traditionally associated with supporting healthy sugar levels.

Karela (Momordica charantia) — bitter gourd is rich in chromium and magnesium, both micronutrients involved in normal sugar metabolism.

Jambubeej (Syzygium cumini) — jamun seed, long used in Indian households for supporting fasting blood sugar levels.

Mamejva (Enicostemma littorale) — traditionally associated with insulin sensitivity and with supporting normal lipid levels.

Methi (Trigonella foenum-graecum) — rich in dietary fibre, and a well-established anti-inflammatory herb in ayurvedic practice.

Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia) — a classical rasayana, associated with antioxidant activity and with supporting the body’s own regulation of blood sugar.

Neem (Azadirachta indica), Kadu (Picrorhiza kurroa), Kachaka (Caesalpinia crista) — a supporting group of bitter herbs, traditionally used to support liver function and healthy metabolism.

Shuddha Shilajit (Asphaltum) — purified mineral pitch, used in ayurveda across genito-urinary, digestive and metabolic indications.

Belpatra (Aegle marmelos), Indrajav (Holarrhena antidysenterica), Gorakhmundi (Sphaeranthus indicus) — completing the formulation with herbs used across the Ayurvedic, Unani and Siddha systems in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
