About this formulation

Orthopan Tablet brings together nine herbs that ayurveda has traditionally used where joints and muscles are concerned. The three lead ingredients — Rasna, Shallaki and Guggul-family resins — are the herbs most often named in classical texts for sandhivata, the vata-related condition of the joints. Ashwagandha and Bala are included for musculoskeletal strength, and Punarnava and Gokharu for their traditional diuretic role in clearing the tissues.

The herbs, and why they are here

Rasna (Vanda roxburghii) — a long-standing herb of the indigenous system for rheumatic and allied complaints. A decoction of the plant has traditionally been used where joints are stiff or painful.

Shallaki (Boswellia serrata) — salai guggul. The oleo-gum resin is the most widely used ayurvedic material for chronic joint discomfort, traditionally associated with easier movement and reduced swelling, and suitable for extended use.

Nirgundi (Vitex negundo) — the leaf, used both internally and as an oil, is regarded in ayurveda as one of the most dependable herbs for joint and muscular pain.

Shuddha Guggul (Commiphora mukul) — purified gum resin, traditionally used in rheumatic conditions and in disorders of metabolism.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) — an adaptogen with anti-inflammatory standing in ayurveda, included here to support endurance and the body’s response to physical stress.

Bala (Sida cordifolia) — the name means strength. Bala appears widely in ayurvedic medicines and oils intended to support bones, muscles and joints.

Gokharu (Pedalium murex) — traditionally used for its diuretic action and in inflammatory and genito-urinary conditions.

Erandbeej (Ricinus communis) — castor seed, classically associated with vata disorders and with relief of muscular aches and back discomfort.

Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa) — used in ayurveda to support the clearing of fluid from the tissues, and traditionally applied where joints are swollen or painful.
