About this formulation

Prostopan Tablet is a men’s urinary and prostate formulation in which the herbs are processed in Kulath kwath — a decoction of horse gram — before tabletting, following the classical ayurvedic practice of using a herbal decoction as the processing medium rather than plain water. Pashanbhed accounts for 200 mg of the 550 mg tablet, with Gokshur, Varun and Punarnava forming the supporting urinary group.

The herbs, and why they are here

Pashanbhed (Bergenia ligulata) — the name translates as “stone breaker”, and the herb is the classical ayurvedic lithotriptic. Its diuretic and cooling action is traditionally used where urination is frequent, urgent or uncomfortable.

Gokshur (Tribulus terrestris) — regarded in ayurveda as among the best herbs for the kidneys. It is traditionally used to support the flow of urine and to soothe the membranes of the urinary tract.

Varun (Crataeva nurvala) — the traditional ayurvedic herb for the kidneys and prostate, long used where swelling of the gland makes urination difficult.

Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa) — the aerial parts are diuretic and antispasmodic in ayurvedic use, and are traditionally applied in urinary tract discomfort.

Kanchnar (Bauhinia variegata) — the classical herb for glandular swellings. Its constituents are traditionally described as clearing impurities from fat, blood and muscle tissue so that the gland can function normally.

Shuddha Guggul (Commiphora mukul) — purified gum resin, included for its traditional role in glandular and inflammatory conditions.

Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) — an adaptogen that supports the ability to cope with stress, and is traditionally described as nourishing muscle and bone tissue and calming vata.

Kulath (Macrotyloma uniflorum) — horse gram, used here as the processing decoction. It is astringent, diuretic and tonic, and is classically associated with the breaking down and flushing out of urinary deposits.
